This lil bugger has invaded my space…

So this happened…

Earworms have invaded my space this week…

Yep, this is a bit of an unusual topic. Surprisingly, earworms have a bit to tell us about messaging and mindset.

Quick refresher: earworms are when you get a fragment of a song or a tune that literally can come out of nowhere (when you least expect it) in your head, and your mind starts humming or singing along. Sometimes even out loud.

What I find fascinating is that scientists have studied this, showing how powerful our memory is with music.”(Interesting tidbit – if you put information to music, it can even help you remember facts and details more easily.)

Did you know that 1 in 5 people experience earworms more than once a day?!

What I found even more interesting in my research about earworms is that they can be associated with your perception, emotions, memory, and spontaneous thoughts. So, your mind associates a song with a specific situation or emotion.

Earworms are actually part of a healthy brain!

When was the last time you had an earworm?

My persistent earworm this past week was a song from the early 90s that I hadn’t heard in years. So I have no clue how that one popped into my head.

After the 7th day in a row, I decided to look up all the lyrics. Once I did that while I listened to the song, a lightbulb went off.

That’s when I decided it would be something interesting and curious I could share with you…

My earworm, ‘Channel Z’ by the B52s, led to an aha moment about media’s ‘static’ and its impact on us. (Some of the lyrics are “getting nothing but static in my attic from channel z.”) I know, pretty crazy, right?

Then it goes on – “I don’t know, I feel like something’s happening. Something good is happening. I feel love has got to come on, and I want it — Something big and lovely. I want the world to change for me! Gotta get away from Z…”

This song is about the media and all the “static” that keeps filling the airwaves with – what I call doom and gloom. Right now, the world is kind of crazy with what’s happening in Israel, gun shootings, weird weather patterns, the stress of the upcoming holidays, and more.

How do we make sense of it and still be able to care for ourselves in mind, body, work, and our families?

How do we continue to put one foot in front of the other and keep our minds focused on what we want?

All terrific fodder for conversation and connection with you today.

And it was a potent reminder to me to slow down my consumption of the news. I check my news app once a day. Then I find myself sucked in, and we know where that can lead….

The funny thing is I turned off all my news notifications on my phone years ago. Yet, I still open the app when I’m winding down at night, and yeah, it’s not helpful at all.

So, how do you take care of yourself in times like these? As we know, being an entrepreneur, our mental health is incredibly important.

Here are some quick Mindset Reset Tips:

  1. Turn off all media notifications on your devices. (As I mentioned above.)
  2. Start and end your day with a rampage of gratefulness. List at least 3 – 5 things you’re grateful for when you wake up and before you go to sleep.
  3. Develop a mindfulness practice – Whether it’s meditation, listening to binaural beats, or using my favorite emotional recognition and healing practice R.A.I.N.
  4. Connect with your people for support – Your loved ones, family, friends, support groups, colleagues, communities, therapist – any place you talk about your feelings and struggles and even ask for help. Which leads to…
  5. Have the Courage to Ask for Help – Know you are not ever alone. And if you’re struggling with something, there’s always someone you can connect with who knows and can relate to your struggle, even if you don’t think there is. Have the courage to ask for help – it’s always there when you need it. (Remember, I’m here for you too!)

This earworm was a reminder for me to step back from constant media and focus on self-care, noticing my thoughts, and reading things that will support my journey in this lifetime.

And then sharing with people I care about – YOU!

Your Attitude, your mind, your thoughts – they affect you more than you know. What you focus on in your mind expands. Always be as aware as you can about what you spend the most time thinking about.

Remember, your thoughts become things – pick the good ones.

Next week is Thanksgiving – holy moly, the end of the year will be here in the blink of an eye. Are you preparing for 2024? I’ve got some opportunities I want to share with you in the coming weeks!

Hope this email finds you in a state of openness, kindness, and curiosity.

Sending a big virtual hug to you!

Paragraph I’m Pondering:

“Now is the appointed time. Today is the day of amazing prosperity. This affirmation would bring an immediate change in world affairs. Life and death are in the power of the tongue, as is success or failure and lack or abundance, for words and thoughts are a form of radioactivity. Man must learn how to draw from the Universal Supply for everything.” ~ The Magic Path of Intuition by Florence Scovel Shinn

Powerful Mantra to Inspire:

  • “I am magnetized by the Universe. I have and hold, from this day forth, and forevermore, all that is mine by Diving Right.” ~ Florence Scovel Shinn
  • “ All things are possible here and now. I now attain the seemingly unattainable.” ~ Florence Scovel Shinn

Weekly Photos:
This week was animal week. Of course, there’s a pic of Emma relaxing and then one with her walking buddy, Harley, on one of my favorite mountain trails.

One morning, we were up walking and ran into a deer family just walking down the street like they owned the neighborhood, which they do cuz they were here first!

Then, one of my favorite mountains – Shasta Bali, during a very cloudy sunrise. And another from our deck. When the seasons change, we sure get a lot of beautiful sunrises.
