The Shift You Can’t Ignore in Marketing—Is Your Business Ready?

This week, I was talking with a long-time friend and colleague about marketing. We were discussing how things are changing.

I was telling him about a couple of launches I did last year, that did well. Yet, they didn’t make nearly as much money when we launched similar products 5 years ago.

We both put our heads together to figure out what was going on in online marketing, and it feels like it’s become harder and more crowded to get noticed.

It was then that I realized that many of the same tactics we used five years ago, we were still using today.

In the middle of the launch, I tried to change things up and try new things. It helped move the needle, yet we were still stymied by the good sales but not the seven figures we saw five years ago.

So what’s changed?

After a deep dive, there is a definite shift happening. Pockets of authentic, more transparent, and value-driven marketing have been popping up.

The shift is happening more on a wider scale.

That’s one of the many reasons why I created Soulful Marketing. This movement is about another way to market your business. One that’s focused on authenticity, value-driven, and transformation first, then sales.

It’s about making a bigger impact in the world and helping your dream clients or customers be more successful and live more fulfilling lives.

So, how do you go about doing that?

The first step is to ensure that your business’s mission speaks to you and answers the question of why you started it.

Then, it’s about tying that mission to your values. Once you’ve got your values, then how do you infuse them into how you market your business?

THAT is definitely the ULTIMATE question.

Let’s Start With What NOT To Do:

  • Misleading Claims: They promise unrealistic results or benefits that the product or service can’t actually deliver. You see this in health supplements, beauty products, and more.
  • Fake Scarcity: Creating a false sense of urgency by claiming there is a limited amount of time to get the product at a special price when in fact, it is widely available.
  • Hidden Fees and Conditions: Not disclosing the full cost or key conditions associated with a purchase upfront, which might surprise you after you buy. You know, the ones that put you on a monthly auto-ship/pay, eek.
  • Extreme Manipulative Emotional Appeals: Exploiting emotional triggers such as fear, guilt, or insecurity to compel people to buy rather than relying on the genuine value of the offering.
  • Clickbait: Using sensationalized or misleading headlines to get clicks, which leads to content that does not fulfill the promises made in the headline.

Yep, it’s these and many more tactics that give marketing a bad name. I mean, no wonder many entrepreneurs tell me they don’t like marketing. That’s cuz none of these tactics aligns with their mission and values.

This is why I created the Soulful Marketing Manifesto. I’ve just heard this week from a VERY successful copywriter, who’s been using those same s “What Not To Do” strategies for years, and it’s not working anymore. He’s now rethinking how he’s going to market to his people from now on.

I’ve talked about this before. The internet is SO ACCESSIBLE on any device, and after the pandemic, everyone and their brother are selling online now. It’s tough out there.

All the strategies being taught about Online Marketing just aren’t working anymore.

That’s why I’m always talking about how we need to change our strategies and definitely don’t buy into any tactics. Product launches or old news, as well as webinars and 5-day challenges, aren’t cutting it anymore.

So what’s the answer? What do you do instead?

You focus on your mission and values. And you simply need to be your authentic, transparent, and genuine self. Connect to your dream clients on a deeper level.

If you haven’t downloaded the Soulful Marketing Manifesto: Marketing That’s As Honest, Authentic, And As Value-Driven As You Are, you can get access to it here.

In it, I share my system of a new way to market your business. The first step, as I mentioned above is basing your marketing strategies on your why, purpose, your mission. Then, you align it with your values. Next, you really have to get into the heads of your dream clients.

Not just surface-level stuff like they want to make money or solve X problem. You have to go deeper into your dream clients and why they’re in business. What does it mean to them?

You Can Start By Answering These Questions:

  1. What’s your dream client’s biggest deep desire?
  2. What do they believe about it?
  3. How do they feel about it?
  4. How can you help change how they feel and make a bigger impact?
  5. What’s the story they’re playing in their head, and why they can’t achieve it?
  6. What do they care about?
  7. What values does your product or service create for your dream clients?
  8. What’s the truth about your dream clients that you want to matter to?
  9. What would you like them to believe about you and about themselves when they consider using your product or service?

When you answer the questions above, it will help you create better core messaging and better copy for your websites, emails, promos, posts, and more.

Earworm Thie Week:

“Oh-ho-ho-ho—-… Everybody was Kung Fu fighting…. haaa!”
Well, this is a rather strange song that pops into my head. And it’s because, at one point this past week, we had 3 fires almost knocking on our door. You must know that CAL fire—our firefighters, fire jumpers, and fire pilots are kick-ass up here. And are working their tails off to keep us all safe. This fire season is a lot more active than the past 2 years. Thank goodness they put out two of them. So things are a bit quiet, thank goodness.

Cool Side Note: I just found out that CAL Fire has the largest fleet of planes in the U.S. They have over 60 planes.

Here are the top aircraft in their fleet:

  • Helicopters:
Super Huey Helicopters, Sikorsky S-70i Helicopters –These copters have big buckets holding up to 324 gallons of water/foam. They are so cool. They drop down in lakes, pools, and rivers and grab water to use to put out the fire. And can take up to 9 fire jumpers and crew to drop off at the first site.

Hoist Rescue Helicopters – These are the most technical and dangerous tasks that CAL Fire helicopters have to do.
  • Air Tactical Aircraft:
Air tankers – These big planes drop over 1,200 gallons of long-term red fire retardant.

Air Tactical Aircraft: These planes are air command and coordinate all the aircraft. They also help fire personnel on the ground navigate the fire and anticipate needs and potential threats to life and property.

Paragraph I’m Pondering

“Visualizing is a great way to get out of our heads and stop trying to” figure things out.” It’s a way to let go of the dreaded need to know how and just tap into the power of our imagination. But there’s also nothing wrong with using the immense power of our mind to solve problems and resolve issues. Again, the mind is really good at solving problems and answering questions…” ~ Robert MacPhee, Living a Values Based Life: Discover, Clarify and Live in Alignment with Your Highest Values.

Powerful Affirmations to Inspire

  • “I am a visionary leader, turning my ideas into thriving realities that inspire and uplift others.”
  • “Every challenge I face is an opportunity to grow, innovate, and strengthen my business.”
  • “I attract the right people and resources that align with my purpose, allowing my business to flourish effortlessly.”

By the time we finish dinner, she’s already curled up and fast asleep in a bed that’s far too big for her. It was Lily’s bed, and we had to say goodbye to her two years ago. I couldn’t bear to throw it out, and now Emma loves it.
