The Magic of Becoming Creatively Unstuck…

Have you ever been stuck, like writer’s block kind of stuck?

And honestly, that phrase doesn’t quite fit for me cuz I’ve not ever had writer’s block. What I’ve had is a block in working more in my business.

Have you ever struggled with that?

I am top-notch when it comes to running everyone else’s business. In fact, I truly love working with my clients and being behind the scenes when it comes to helping them however I can with launching their business into the stratosphere.

So why sometimes do I lack motivation when it comes to my own business and doing more than just one-on-one client work?

This thought occurred to me after fielding many inquiries these past 3 weeks from potential dream clients who want to work with me. I’m definitely not saying this to brag.

I’m saying this because I’ve observed that working with one-on-one clients gives me great satisfaction. Yet, it also takes me away from developing my own group programs, where I can work with more than one entrepreneur at a time. You know – “the one to many” philosophy I’ve talked about here before.

So, when my spouse was working this past weekend, I took the opportunity to do some things differently. Instead of watching some mind-numbing British crime shows, I watched the movie Tick, Tick Boom and Taylor Swift’s documentary Miss Americana.

Wow. After those two movies, my mind was almost exploding with inspiration and ideas.

Tick, Tick Boom is about Jonathan Larson’s creative, poverty-stricken life and dying before he got to see his musical Rent on Broadway. He created songs about everything! And he had a major block in writing a specific song.

And how they showed you his breakthrough in the YMCA pool with music notes was amazing. A must-watch.

Later, I researched and found out that Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) was the Director of Tick Tick Boom. And he was also inspired by Larson to have a career in musical theatre. Love how people are so connected with each other.

Then, watching Taylor Swift’s Miss Americana and her amazing creative process of writing songs about her life from that deep emotional place was so interesting to see in real time. She’s been doing this since she started as a teenager and has her process down. Just wow.

Then, watching Larson do the same it was pretty breathtaking.

I’ve never seen such a piece where you’re actually watching someone brainstorm and create art in all its messy and glorious process.

This was when I decided, if these artists can do it, why can’t I? I am an artist of sorts, an artist of soulful marketing, a writer, and a chief content creator, right?!

My whole mindset shifted when I let all that I was observing, watching, taking in with all my senses – it touched me in a way that nothing has in a while. That is on top of reading the book The Magic Path of Intuition by Florence Scovel Shinn…(I’ve been sharing many of her quotes and affirmations here for several weeks.)

Yep, I’m talking about the magic of connecting to your Source!

The next day, after watching those movies, I started writing, and I just couldn’t stop. It’s like someone turned the faucet on… Hmmm…

It always seems to be a surprise to me when that happens. When I step away from my desk and delve into something totally different, it inspires and jumpstarts my creativity.

That’s why I wanted to share this with you. I’ve talked about creativity before and what to do when you’re blocked. For me, watching something on TV has never inspired me until now.

There’s actually a really cool 5-step process I wrote about in a previous email from the book A Technique of Producing New Ideas, by James Webb Young.

Also, I’d highly recommend watching these: Tick Tick Boom and Taylor Swift’s Miss Americana.

Happy last day of November, it’s December tomorrow – eeek, the end of the year is getting here fast.

Are you ready for the holidays? I’m working on being more organized this year, will let you know how that goes! 🙂

Quote I’m Pondering:

“When your illusions clash with reality, When your falsehoods cash with the truth, then you have suffering.” ~ Anthony DeMello (From You’re Not Going Crazy, You’re Just Waking Up: The Five Stages Of The Soul Transformation Process by Michael Mirdad)

Powerful Mantra to Inspire:

“I stand still and see the power within me.” ~ Florence Scovel Shinn

“The light of infinite intelligence streams through my consciousness. Dissolving and dissipating all anger and resentment. I am at peace with myself and with the whole world.” ~ Florence Scovel Shinn

Here are some fun pics from the Thanksgiving holiday. There’s a usual pic of Emma lounging on the couch in her favorite Eddie Bauer abominable snowman blanket. Then the deer family decided to hang out on our front line, deciding which direction had the best flowers to eat…. 🙂

Alice and I are freezing our buns off in Ashland, and it’s one of THE best places to visit during the holidays. The town puts up and turns on all their Christmas lights which makes for a picturesque evening.

And, of course, being in Oregon, there are so many amazing coffee shops that make their own beans (and add a heart to my coffee) and so little time….
