You are one question away from…

Not sure you’ve noticed that I’m kind of a geek when it comes to collecting information that I’m interested in. Especially when my curiosity overtakes me after I read a story about what someone did that was pretty fascinating such as Cyril Derreumaux. He traversed the pacific ocean in his kayak to reach Hawaii in 92 days. Or when Marc Andreeson set a record in California when he decided to buy the most expensive house in America for a $177 million compound in Malibu. What’s going through their head when they make these decisions? Or is anything going through their head? Maybe it’s just a deeply rooted feeling or an inner drive…

The Value of Having Another Perspective

Before I get into today’s topic, I wanted to clarify something from a reader about last week’s blog, “Taming Your Brain.” I had mentioned that if I hadn’t been meditating for many years, I wouldn’t have been able to recognize or be aware of my thoughts to start changing them and taming my mind. The beauty of this is – that it was MY PROCESS. It took me a long time because of ALL the things I let get in my way, like my issues with alcohol, stopping meditating for a while, and more. Then in the past six years of being in recovery, and now my addiction to learning…

    Taming Your Brain

A bit of a heady mindset topic for this week. Stick with me on this brief journey into your brain and how we work on trying to change your neural pathways to form some fascinating changes in your work and life… Curious? Ready? Let’s go… For the past 20 years, I’ve been taking classes, studying, reading, and practicing meditation and mindfulness. From what I’ve learned – Here’s an example of how the mind works – You’re speaking with someone, and suddenly, something they said hits you weird, and you start to get mad or upset – some feelings start coming up. Do you stop at the moment and notice the emotion bubbling up?…

Letting go of this one thing will help transform your business

When I was just starting my business in 2006, I simply wanted to get my foot in the door somewhere. I needed new clients and was doing everything I could to get them. The biggest source back then was going to live events consistently and always connecting with my mentor and his group of colleagues. (Before the social media craze.) What alluded me was that I was so desperate for clients I could have been more discerning. It was all about the hustle and bringing in money. I had just gotten laid off from my corporate job, and we had a big mortgage, taxes, and a stepson to put through school. I was…

Want some “magic” that will help you never to run out of content ideas???

This week, I’ve got some music earworms in my head. First, it was Olivia Newton John’s “Magic – You’ve got to believe in magic – nothing will stand in your way….” Then, ”Do You Believe in Magic” by the Loving Spoonfuls. Did you know that there are over 60 songs about magic?! I discovered this Google fact when I visited my Mom in Houston last week. When we heard that Olivia Newton-John had died, my Mom wanted to listen to some of her songs… This was when I went down the rabbit hole of magic, earworms, and creating content… Just the word “magic” brings about all sorts of memories and…

Being too close to your business is when this happens…

The last time I had a hot seat in front of a bunch of people was more than three years ago, and Jay Abraham was there offering his insights. I’m not sure how I made it through those twenty minutes. The good news is my business has grown tremendously from that one hot seat – having Jay Abraham giving me some fantastic ideas was priceless. A week ago, I was on a group call with Chris Haddad for his copywriting class. I quickly decided to accept an impromptu hot seat on my sales copy for my new Soulful Marketing & Launch Accelerator program. Holy moly, for a split second, it brought back…

Human Behavior & don’t do what BMW just did…

I’ve been reading books about human behavior and marketing, my most favorite subject. It’s something I’ve always been fascinated about – human behavior and why people do what they do, specifically when it comes to marketing and why people buy. I almost got a degree in psychology and went on to explore more. Instead, with my dad’s encouragement, I decided to change my major to journalism/advertising and minored in psychology. One of the many books I’ve read (Alchemy by Rory Sutherland) talked about the issue of money and human behavior. When it comes to SPENDING money, that’s not a big issue. We know how to do that well. 🙂 And we spend money to…

What does a priest, a website, and a vacation all have in common?

We finally took a vacation last week. And I still can’t believe our last vacation was our honeymoon when we married in June 2019! Since my spouse is in medicine, with the pandemic, we wound up staying put for the duration. We did take some day trips here and there. And there’s nothing like taking a full seven days off and just getting out of dodge… Since it was the first trip out, we decided to pick a place we could drive to for now. I’ve been to almost every state in the U.S. (And around the world twice – thanks to my 20 years in corporate). Seattle was the one…

    It’s a Lil Difficult Sometimes…

I so struggled a bit this week about what to write… (Highly unusual for me.) On the one hand, this is a marketing and launch weekly email where I focus on Marketing, Mindset, and Message. Yet, when the Supreme Court hands down a ruling to take away one of our Constitutional rights, it weighed heavier on me than I realized. it’s hard not to say something about it… AND, I also don’t want to make this into a pulpit for something that could be a hotbed of controversy, which is not what I’m about either… that’s not what you signed up for. How about I compromise… Let’s talk about a…

    I have a confession to make…

As I’ve said in many emails before – I truly do love to learn. It motivates me, and it’s even more inspiring to share what I learn with you and with my clients. This is where my confession begins – with my ABL (always be learning) attitude, I’ve bought a lot of online learning products over the years. Here comes the confession part – because of the above, there are quite a few courses that I’ve NEVER finished. THERE I said it. Whew. Am I alone in my confession? Have you ever bought any online learning products that you’ve not ever finished? Sometimes it’s kind of the worst feeling. Almost…

What kind of help do you give your clients or colleagues?

Have you ever worked with a client who had some specific things they wanted you to help them with and you weren’t sure these things would work? What did you do? 1. Did you go along with them and give them advice and simply do the work they wanted? 2. Or did you tell them their plan had some flaws and wasn’t as good as it could be, and you proposed to help them come up with an even better plan? Seth Godin recently mentioned this kind of help in his blog. The second option is actually rarer – and in fact, more useful. Plus, it’s a bit harder to do. You have…

By defying logic you can create incredible success – hmmmmm

I love counterintuitive ideas and things that really get my mind spinning – much like a chew toy does for a dog… The one I want to share with you today is about how when you *defy logic. You can actually create some tremendous success. No, I’m not talking about feats of engineering or technology. I’m talking about the idea of perception vs. reality. And about alchemy and magic. Let’s say you think of a good idea for a business. And it’s really a good idea, one that others have done, yet, you’re going to turn that industry on its head. Yet, when you share the idea and if you start…

The shower debacle – guides are essential!

It’s hard to believe it’s already been six weeks since we’ve been in our house. And we definitely love it and the dogs too! We created a long term plan of some things we want to change and renovate. What we didn’t expect was that we’d have to do some now. On Sunday, I hear a yell from the bathroom for help. It’s my spouse who’s standing there, holding the shower door that had fallen off. I went in to help her and saw that the hinge had broken. So what do you do when that happens? Of course, you Google “fix shower door!” We found a shower glass replacement…

    Boots on the ground marketing…

Have you ever done any “boots on the ground” type of marketing? You know, the kind that involves going door to door, or maybe setting up a table at a fair or a booth at an event? This type of marketing can be the most rewarding and yet the most exhaustive as well. The interesting thing to note is that when it’s done well, it REALLY works. What does done well essentially mean: In Your Marketing Materials – Take a direct response approach where you’re using these 5 elements of the sales message: Check out my friend and stellar copywriter Julie– Make sure you have defined your dream client(s) and where…

Does this ever happen to you?

Sometimes I sit at my desk, staring at my three computer monitors, wondering if everyone who has a business online struggles with the same issues… Like today, I’m trying to stay on top of my “subscriber” email box, so it doesn’t get to 12k emails ever again. Thank goodness for my new assistant, who’s been helping me keep it around 300 or so unopened… Before you jump ahead in thinking that my “Subscriber” inbox is out of control and how do I answer emails, etc.… You need to know that this email box is for all the products, services, newsletters, and lists I buy or subscribe to. So when I’m writing…
