Throwback to 2012 – living authentically

This week I’m going to throwback to an earlier post I did in 2012 – 5 Steps to Daring Greatly and Living Authentically, where I talked about my experience of meeting Brene Brown when she was on Katie Couric’s DayTime TV Show that’s since been canceled. On this show, she interviewed Brene Brown on the launch of her then-new book – Daring Greatly. This was right at the start of her trajectory as an author and speaker. It was an amazing experience being in the audience, then meeting and connecting with her backstage (I knew the Supervising Producer for the show.), and having her sign my book. I’m sharing this post again because the message about authentically…

Are you good at finding things?

There’s been one thing that somewhat mystifies me, and that’s my ability to find things that are lost. I can’t really explain it, except when I can’t find something, there’s an inner voice that actually whispers to me where I can find that lost item. I know, I know, this may sound a bit crazy, and before you think that I hear voices, let me explain further… It’s been two weeks since we’ve moved to our new house, and one of our most used questions has been – “Hey honey have you seen the [insert name of item here]?” I thought we did a pretty awesome job at packing, yet,…

It’s Time to Change Your Stories

What are the stories you keep telling yourself? You know, the ones when it comes to putting yourself out there in a big way to promote your business – “Oh, this won’t work. Someone else has already created something like this. I need to come up with a new idea.” Or “Who do I think I am trying to sell and promote this course? I don’t have enough experience.” Or “I can’t ask for $500. That’s way too much for this course. I don’ think they will pay it.” Can you relate to any of the above statements? It’s essential to pay attention to those thoughts that pop into your…

    What makes a perfect 10?

Have you ever watched the Olympics Gymnasts and thought about what exactly makes up a perfect 10 score?  The reason I’m asking this question is that while my spouse and I were on an early morning walk, we got to talking about this.  I was sharing with her how I was making a ton of progress finishing the new guide I’m writing – Soulful Marketing Manifesto. She was curious about it, mainly because a manifesto is a document that declares and shares a new vision, approach of a new marketing movement. It sounds kind of serious, right? 🙂 As I explained my manifesto to her, it reminded her of a talk…

    Traveling & Some Disney Adventures

I debated whether to share this with you or not. And then I said to myself – “Well, I promised to be real and transparent.”  So here goes… Needless to say, traveling from the west coast to the east coast can be exhausting. You know what I’m talking about, when you have to get up at the crazy hour of 4am or earlier.  (Or we sometimes call it “O’Dark 30”). The hilarious thing is the folks at the airport and airlines are making a big assumption that we’re awake and functioning at capacity – ummm yeah… The good news is it was a little delay, yet all was well traveling…

It’s Time to Make Peace With This…

Being on this planet for 50+ years, I feel like I’ve done a lot, seen a lot, and experienced a lot. Yet other times, I feel like such a newbie. Do you ever have that feeling? When it comes to Thanksgiving, several things come to mind. I mean, I have seen my fair share of this holiday. Yet, why must I do the same thing every year? Hmmmm it got me thinking… In fact, on my walk today, I was reminiscing about my favorite Thanksgiving – the one right after my 12-year relationship ended and Debbie Phillips (Founder WomenOnFire.com) and Rob Berkley invited me to spend the holiday in Martha’s…

Best productivity secret I’ve used for over 10 years…

How’s your end-of-the-year “things you want to accomplish list” coming along? You know the one I talked about last week… And if you’ve decided you’ve done enough this year and you need a break – good on ya – that’s cool. If you’ve got your list and getting things accomplished, I’m thrilled for you. And if you’re anything like me, it’s been a bit more of a struggle. I’m letting too many things distract me. So I’ve upped my productivity game and doubled down on the strategy that never fails me – it’s called the Ivy Lee 6 method. Have you ever heard of it? It’s been keeping me organized…

Journey into the Human Psyche (Part 1)

Have you ever had a moment where you read something, watched something, or maybe a friend told you about something that totally grabbed your curiosity, and you had to dig deeper to discover more? Well, that’s where I’ve been these past several days… Ever since I started reading True Believer by Eric Hoffer, this journey into the human psyche has really got me incredibly curious. The fun part is my spouse Ally is just as fascinated by the human psyche. Usually, before she heads off to the hospital, we always have our coffee and talk. Lately, we’ve been reading aloud from True Believer and having some insightful conversations. (I do love being with someone…

    Are you a positive energizer?

Have you ever heard of a positive energizer? Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of reading and researching about positivity for a client. When I came across this term – “Positive Energizer.” It was really interesting stuff and I wanted to share because… In the early part of my life, I spent it being incredibly negative because that’s all I knew how to be. I had no idea there was another way to live and that my mindset mattered. It wasn’t until I hired an executive coach that I discovered there was another way of being. That I had a choice to stay in a negative thinking mind or do…

    Who’s running the show today?

Tools of the trade If you’re looking for more links and some pure left-brain marketing tips, this might fill the bill.   And you simply need to hang in with me for a few more paragraphs until we get there. 🙂 Come on, keep reading, aren’t you curious? Just a little about what I’m gonna share? 😉 Last week I helped out my friend and mentor – Debbie Phillips, by hosting her weekly check-in last week on Thursday morning. (She was out of town and I was happy to pitch in for her as I’ve done before.) Let me share with you a little about Debbie Phillips. She’s a VIP (Very…

    Cool Tools of the Trade

Going off script today I’m constantly asked about what tools I use to keep my business humming along. I’ve written before about some core tools that keep me productive. You can check that article out here. So today, I wanted to share some core tools that will work for you when it comes to websites, email systems, shopping carts, project management, and so much more! Let’s rewind back to around 2006. This was the year I was laid off again from the corporate world. It was also when I decided that would be the last time it was gonna happen. I put a stake in the ground. Registered my business…

When you find your head spinning…

I remember when I first started my own business fifteen years ago, and I was torn in SO MANY directions. It was a bit nutty. And I was a bit of a mess. The stress level was pretty much through the roof, and I was pretty exhausted. There’s so much to do when you start a business. Questions like – Do I register with the Federal government and get a federal ID# (This is what you need to do in the states) or just be a solopreneur. How do I get new clients? Or how do I sell my stuff and make money fast? It’s quite endless. Then there was…

Are you manipulating people with your copy or are you using influence?

Last week one of my clients asked me if I write these weekly emails in advance and simply set them up to go out each week in an email campaign – interesting. That’s a terrific idea. I wish I could sit down and bang out 10 of these at once. Yet, that’s not my process. I have so many ideas and things I want to share with you each week. It’s more fun for me to write either the day before or the day that I send out the email. Like I’m doing now. 🙂 My goal is to have them fresh, interesting, and sort of my stream of consciousness of what I’m…

    Upon reflection… what connects us

Today is such an incredibly historic day on so many levels. It’s inauguration day for the next President of the U.S. – Joe Biden. Plus, the first woman of color and biracial descent to be the Vice President – Kamala Harris. I’ve watched and read so much about the day. I wanted this email to be a little different. I got up early to watch all the inaugural festivities, which, to be honest, I’ve not ever done before. Well, the last one, let’s just say, “he was not my president.” Plus, I think I was traveling that day.  And before that, I caught glimpses of Obama’s, yet I was working…
