    Are you a positive energizer?

Have you ever heard of a positive energizer? Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of reading and researching about positivity for a client. When I came across this term – “Positive Energizer.” It was really interesting stuff and I wanted to share because… In the early part of my life, I spent it being incredibly negative because that’s all I knew how to be. I had no idea there was another way to live and that my mindset mattered. It wasn’t until I hired an executive coach that I discovered there was another way of being. That I had a choice to stay in a negative thinking mind or do…

The ONE thing Barbara Corcoran did that changed her trajectory in real estate

I heard an interesting story this morning and wanted to share it with you. It’s about Barbara Corcoran and how she got her first break in real estate. I loved not only her tenacity and grit but also how she really “got” what her dream client felt was important in an apartment in NYC. It’s when she was first starting out as a secretary at a real estate agency. She had asked the owner if he would give her an apartment to list so she could get some experience. So, of course, being green, he gave her the most difficult apartment to sell. It was a third-floor walk-up, not a…

The Not So ‘Sexy’ Way to Get New Clients

Being in the online marketing space for 15 years, I’m feeling grateful for all the learning I’ve been doing. That’s what I’m calling any mistakes I’ve made along the way – learning because they’re not mistakes if I’ve taken away some huge lessons! I can think back at how hard it was to create high converting landing and web pages, and now as you may have seen with my last couple of emails, there are TONS of online resources that will make it even easier for you to create web pages, graphics and more. The name of the game, though to keep your business alive and to thrive is to…

Just a little about what I’m gonna share? 😉 Last week I helped out my friend and mentor – Debbie Phillips, by hosting her weekly check-in last week on Thursday morning. (She was out of town and I was happy to pitch in for her as I’ve done before.) Let me share with you a little about Debbie Phillips. She’s a VIP (Very…

    Cool Tools of the Trade

Going off script today I’m constantly asked about what tools I use to keep my business humming along. I’ve written before about some core tools that keep me productive. You can check that article out here. So today, I wanted to share some core tools that will work for you when it comes to websites, email systems, shopping carts, project management, and so much more! Let’s rewind back to around 2006. This was the year I was laid off again from the corporate world. It was also when I decided that would be the last time it was gonna happen. I put a stake in the ground. Registered my business…

Have You Hugged Your Customers Lately?

There’s been a lot of hugging going on this week for me, which I love since it feels like the pandemic madness of “no touching” is slowly being lifted as more people have gotten vaccinated. (In our little part of Northern CA, if you can believe, only 28% of folks have gotten vaccinated – hmmmm…) So what’s all the hugging about? Well, it was my spouse’s birthday this week, and yesterday was our 2 year wedding anniversary. So lot’s to celebrate and happy we can do that with friends. There’s just something about hugging. You know when you get a really good hug that lasts a few seconds more than…

When you find your head spinning…

I remember when I first started my own business fifteen years ago, and I was torn in SO MANY directions. It was a bit nutty. And I was a bit of a mess. The stress level was pretty much through the roof, and I was pretty exhausted. There’s so much to do when you start a business. Questions like – Do I register with the Federal government and get a federal ID# (This is what you need to do in the states) or just be a solopreneur. How do I get new clients? Or how do I sell my stuff and make money fast? It’s quite endless. Then there was…

Are you manipulating people with your copy or are you using influence?

Last week one of my clients asked me if I write these weekly emails in advance and simply set them up to go out each week in an email campaign – interesting. That’s a terrific idea. I wish I could sit down and bang out 10 of these at once. Yet, that’s not my process. I have so many ideas and things I want to share with you each week. It’s more fun for me to write either the day before or the day that I send out the email. Like I’m doing now. 🙂 My goal is to have them fresh, interesting, and sort of my stream of consciousness of what I’m…

Before Creating Something New – you have to do this…

After my email about swipe files last week, I had several folks respond with some questions about how to capture screenshots.  Check out the “Note” at the bottom of this post to see a quick video I created to show you how to do it. Hope that helps! This week I wanted to share with you some specific ideas about how I believe we need to do a little disruption in our industries. Let me explain – I’ve talked about Bernadette Jiwa several times in my past emails. (If you don’t recall them – no worries, check out the P.S. for a link to my reviews of her books.) I…

Don’t Ever Create Any of Your Content From Scratch Again

How many times a day, week, month or more, are you creating content for your business? It could be social medial content for posts, content for emails, blogs, write sales pages, optin pages, maybe notes or questions for podcast guests. Or maybe you need some scripts or templates for videos you’re going to create. Content, content, content is the name of the game in marketing. It’s always been content, now it’s really becoming a force to grow your business. Being successful in business, your marketing isn’t just about selling anymore. It’s about attracting, connecting, personalizing, and solving your customers’/clients’ problems. My favorite clients are the ones that have a ton…

Getting Your Personality In Your Copy

Before I give you some of the mind-blowing lessons from what I believe is one of the greatest direct response marketing copywriters – Dan Kennedy, I wanted to share a quick story.  Later in my career as an online strategic marketer, what was exciting to me was sharing the same stage with Dan at his request. Then later working with him and Glazer-Kennedy Insider’s Circle for a year. Working with him and actually meeting with him on several occasions, not to mention the two writing contests I’d won where he granted me two separate live, in-person (obviously before the pandemic) 30-minute consultations about my business.  What I learned from this copywriting…

    Upon reflection… what connects us

Today is such an incredibly historic day on so many levels. It’s inauguration day for the next President of the U.S. – Joe Biden. Plus, the first woman of color and biracial descent to be the Vice President – Kamala Harris. I’ve watched and read so much about the day. I wanted this email to be a little different. I got up early to watch all the inaugural festivities, which, to be honest, I’ve not ever done before. Well, the last one, let’s just say, “he was not my president.” Plus, I think I was traveling that day.  And before that, I caught glimpses of Obama’s, yet I was working…

Coming Out at 37: A Short Story

I stared down at my coffee, swirled it a bit to mix the cream in with the coffee, and sank into my chair at the hip coffee house. It took me a whole minute before I could look up at my new friend and answer the question he just lobbed across the table to me. To anyone paying attention to our conversation, it might have looked like an innocent exchange. Yet, to me, it rocked me at my core. I kept thinking about his question over and over again in my head – “Shannon, you sound like you’re deeply in love with her. Have you told her how you feel?”…

Dear Future Self – What a Year 2020 was – yikes!

Another holiday season almost under the belt – yay! This feels like it’s been the longest year ever. I still can’t believe I’ve been home in my office for nine months.  That’s not ever happened before. Usually, I’m off traveling to meet clients, attend a mastermind, an event, or visit my mom. I’m sure you can relate. So, I was home long enough to put together a gingerbread type house for the holidays. Instead of gingerbread, it was made with Oreo cookies and fluffy white icing.  I’ve not ever tried to do one of these before. And when you check out my picture, you will know why! I’m not sure…
